HP‘s new Global Government Affairs Vice President



Larry Irving, world wide known person in innovation and technology credited with implanting the term “digital divide”, will join the Hewlett-Packard Company as vice president of Global Government Affairs.

He is a frequent media commentator on technology items, has a law degree from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northwestern University in Chicago.

Irving was White House technology adviser; he held rank of Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Information and Communications in the President Clinton administration. Now he will guide Hewlett-Packard global government affairs team from Washington, D.C. and report to Michael Holston, general counsel and executive vice president of Hewlett-Packard. Build relationships with government officials, non-governmental organizations; form public policy; negotiate with community leaders, business partners worldwide are Irving’s duties.

HP chairman and chief executive officer, Mark Hurdis stated that Irving’s commitment to use technology to advance everybody’s life is fully aligned with HP’s corporate philosophy.

Irving is experienced in wide spectrum of IT aspects. He was named “the ‘Net’s conscience” for his contribution in spreading advantages of technology throughout society.

Holston is happy Irving to join HP team. HP executive vice president has no doubts that Irving has a profound understanding of public policy, technology, business and global markets.

Ten years ago in 1999, after retirement from Clinton administration Irving founded consulting firm. While on the post of Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Information and Communications he was responsible for questions related to the e-commerce, telecommunications, Internet, and so on. Irving contributed into three Clinton’s administration reports “Falling through the Net”. These reports were dedicated to the consequences of information technology accessibility.

Irving declared that he is excited by this opportunity to apply his knowledge and experience in his new office. HP is the world’s leading technology company; it is constantly seeking new ways to use technology to solve problems and create opportunities. He stated that is happy to be part of the policy discussion around that effort.
