It played a significant role in spreading of universal laptops application. Heavy lead-acid batteries were substituted for lighter nickel cadmium (NiCd) laptop batteries. Afterwards they were replaced by nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery technology. Then lithium ion (Li-Ion) laptop battery technology appeared. Currently lithium ion polymer (LiPo) batteries are supposed to be the best ones. However battery technologies improvements are not finished yet. Researchers of all kinds are working hard in this field. Electric and hybrid cars are emerged and require enormous quantity of energy to be stored. All this ensures that farther improvement of battery technologies will take place. The lithium ion polymer (LiPo) laptop batteries are of great interest – they provide over 20% higher energy density than ordinary Li-ion battery. Though, serious battery technology improvements are still ahead. Modern laptop batteries are not designed to survive the average lifetime of a laptop. Ordinary laptop battery may last as little as one year before it ceases to hold sufficient quantity of charge. In this case, it is necessary to replace the battery. Leading computers manufactures such as Dell, HP, Fujitsu, Apple, Compac, Samsung, Sony, Gateway, IBM, Panasonic and Toshiba try to develop a battery technology that can work successfully during the entire laptop lifetime.
